Instagram, with its 1 billion active users every month,  are rolling out “Checkout” (currently only on Beta and in US – which only accounts for 12% of their total user numbers)

Whilst browsing through Instagram and you come across something you would like, tap once to view the details.

Here you can select any options available, such as size or colour, then you’ll proceed to payment without leaving Instagram.

CheckoutThe only thing left to do is the payment, which is an easy fill out form provided, and after it’s first used will save the data for your next purchase.

All shipping and notifications will be found directly through the Instagram app, they don’t want you going out of their app to have to check on your email! This will increase their current usage number of 32mins per day for under 25 year olds, and 24mins for 25 years and older age groups.

 

 

The current list of brands signed up for this is currently limited to a few, with some surprising names of luxury brands. I am going to speculate that the luxury brands will only be selling their cosmetics and fragrancies line through the app. If this proves fruitful and they listen to their Instagram audience, of which 71% are under the age of 35, this might ignite them to follow pursuit of what so few luxury brands have tried to do -selling online. This is usually down to their marketing strategy which is focused on individualised attention producing higher levels of customer value, limited runs, and high quality.
